In a world where content is key, the search for updated images and videos will always remain a goal. In the aesthetic industry, before and after content have become an integral part of gaining a patient’s trust, be it an existing or potential patient. But generating the correct and true before and after images are just as important as the actual action itself. Implementing the following tips will help create the best before and after content.
Consistency Is Key
Keeping things consistent is important when it comes to before and after content to ensure that the results are best shown. Make use of the following tools to achieve consistency:
- Have your subject pose the same angle every time content is taken.
- Make use of the grid feature on your camera.
- Take advantage of a tripod or ring light to create the same height and angle.
It is important to photograph the image in the same way and to not only photograph the result, for example if the before image is a picture of the patient’s whole face, the after picture should also be of the whole face using the same angle and not only a close up of the area where results are visible.
Keep Things Simple
Ensure that the same background is used in all the content created. A clear, clean background will result in the best content. Avoid a busy or cluttered background and aim to use a white or neutral coloured background. An example of a good background to use is a white or neutral wall, door or backdrop.
Lighting
One of the most important elements to consider when creating before and after content is the lighting used. Lighting can play an important part in how it showcases the patient in both the before or afters, thus it is firstly important to always use the same lighting or type of light. The best way to ensure the same and best lighting every time is through the use of a ring light. An alternative to using a ring light is using natural light, which is best optimised in front of a window. When using natural light it is best to take the before and after content at roughly the same time of the day to ensure the same lighting in all the content. Different or bad lighting can have an effect on the results visible in the pictures or videos taken and may not be a true representation of the actual results.
Body Posture & Expression
Body posture or facial expression can have a huge effect on the success of before and after content. Always ensure that your patient is relaxed and comfortable when taking the content to ensure the best results. When taking pictures or videos of the face, ensure that your patient’s face is relaxed, that they are not frowning or smiling. If you are creating content of the body, ensure that your patient’s body posture is the same in both images to see true results. When taking before and after pictures of the body or face, it is always important to take the content while the patient is up right rather than laying down to ensure that the results are most true from before and after.
So, what are you waiting for? Get going with your before and after images – We can’t wait to see the truthful results.
