Treatment Parameters

Diolaze XL uses an 810nm diode laser wavelength optimally absorbed by melanin in the hair follicle. Treatment parameters are adjusted based on skin type (Fitzpatrick), hair colour, and treatment area. Built-in cooling allows for higher fluences with improved comfort.

Clinical Notes

Shave the treatment area 24 hours before the session. No topical anaesthetic is typically required due to integrated cooling. Avoid sun exposure for 2–4 weeks pre- and post-treatment. Darker skin types require longer pulse widths and lower fluences — test patch mandatory. 4–6 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart recommended for most areas, with maintenance sessions as required.

Most patients achieve significant permanent hair reduction in 4–6 sessions, spaced 4–8 weeks apart. Areas with hormonal influence (face, bikini) may require more sessions. Hair colour, coarseness, and skin type affect the number of sessions required. Annual maintenance treatments are recommended for any residual regrowth.
Yes — Diolaze XL is suitable for Fitzpatrick V and VI skin types when using appropriate pulse widths (50–100ms) and conservative fluences with maximum cooling. A patch test is mandatory before treatment on darker skin. The longer pulse widths allow the heat to dissipate from the epidermis while still targeting the follicle.
Diolaze XL is most effective on dark (brown to black) hair. It is less effective on blonde, red, grey, or white hair because these hair types contain less melanin to absorb the laser energy. Very fine vellus hair is also generally not treatable with any diode laser.
There is no downtime after Diolaze XL treatment. Patients may experience mild redness and follicular swelling for a few hours post-treatment, which resolves spontaneously. Avoid heat exposure, hot baths, and direct sunlight for 24–48 hours.
